Bill Colley distils over two decades of pastoral care, learning support and consultancy work and reflects on what works for the children we are often asked to ‘fix’ by examining one child for whom the gap between services had become a chasm.  In scrutinising what eventually went right for Johnny ‘No-friends’, he concludes that direct intervention is often less important than building ‘learning habitats’ around each child.
