Mental health and wellbeing

Sometimes it can be challenging coping with a learning difficulty. It can affect how a person feels about themself.

Children and young people with learning difficulties might experience:

  • Low self esteem
  • Lack of motivation
  • Obsessive behaviours
  • Loneliness
  • Difficulty making/keeping friendships
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

If you’re feeling any of these, it’s important to share these feelings with your parents, carer or a trusted adult. If your child is experiencing any of these, ask for help from your GP.

Wellbeing Wheel

We’re creating resources to help children and young people explore their feelings – like our Wellbeing Wheels for Primary and Secondary pupils.
