United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most complete statement of children’s rights ever produced and is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. Scotland, along with other countries that have signed the UNCRC, agrees that the rights of children should be protected and promoted in all areas of their life.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

People with disabilities have protected rights as outlined in the Equality Act 2010, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This can include neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD, ASD, DCD, Dyslexia or Tourette syndrome. The UN Convention was adopted by the UN in 2006 and the UK agreed to follow it in 2009.

The Promise

‘The Promise’ is the Scottish Government’s response to the Independent Care Review that was published in February 2020, in order to improve the lives of care-experienced children and young people and their families. Its main aim is that every child grows up loved, safe and respected, able to realise their full potential.
